This thoughtbook was constructed using the fine book binding process. Large sheets of Zerkall papers were hand-cut using a paper knife, leaving a deckled edge. Once cut, the papers were folded to create signatures. The signatures of paper were then hole punched and stitched together with linen threads. Gold end papers were added to the front and back of the text block to protect the text papers. A blue ribbon was attached and the paper spine was enforced using papers, mesh and other book binding supplies, completing the text paper stack. The front of the book was created by layering/gluing carefully cut book boards and other materials for a 3-D effect. Once built up, the front was covered with glue and genuine white leather and smoothed with several tools. Various colored stones were glued to the center of the piece one at a time creating the look of a geode. The cover was then hand painted and adorned with gold leaf in various metallic colors. The back of the book was then covered with the white leather and attached to the cover. The casing was then glued around the text block. This piece is finished with a metal clasp to hold it together.
